The Sunset House emphasizes materiality by using a minimalistic design. Natural materials and surfaces such as slate stones and wood are featured as the main design focus. They leaned towards darker and monochromatic shades, magnifying the innate sense of elegance within them. The rest of the house utilized white or lighter colours to serve as a foil to complement the concept of materiality of space so that the materials would stand out as distinct design anchors.

Views towards the outdoor landscape are also guaranteed with the usage of full-length folding doors lining the wall across the open plan living spaces, aiming to express the idea that nature as a dynamic component in contrast to the materials found indoor that are more static.

All these elements contribute to a cohesive design palette that celebrates the beauty of materiality in interior spaces.
